November 2010
Rick Wilson welcomed 43 members and guests to the November meeting. The guest speaker changed at the last minute to Peter Bowler a professional cricketer for over 20 years playing for Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Somerset and Tasmania. As an opening batsman he spent most of his time facing up to the worlds fastest bowlers. In 1992 he was England’s top scorer. His batting aggregate was just under 20,000 runs with a total of 45 hundreds. Brought up in Tasmania and when he arrived in England played for Leicestershire in his first match against Hampshire. He was called up for England on three occasions after which he played for Derbyshire and Somerset where he was made captain for three seasons. Today he is an accomplished after dinner speaker and works as a legal consultant in corporate law. He was thanked on behalf of the club by Secretary David Evans.

The Simon Weston evening held at the Wisbech St. Mary Community Centre has attracted nearly 150 members and guests.

36 Members and wives
were entertained at Mendis Restaurant to Horse, Dog and Pig
racing on film.
Chairman Rick Wilson welcomed everybody to our Ladies night
event. During the evening Martin Howley was inducted as a new
member and was presented with his club tie and badge.
The 3rd. annual golf day was held recently at the Tydd St. Giles
Golf and Leisure club with 12 teams entering and playing on a
day with perfect weather. The winning team for the second year
running was Gary Fitzjohn, Tom Cracknell, Gary Neaugebauer and
Brian Tapner playing under the the team name of the Cabinet
Maker. After the game players and guests enjoyed a carvery meal
and were entertained by an excellent well known sporting
comedian Ian Richards
July 2010
33 members attended the
July meeting and before the meeting started chairman Rick Wilson
presented a track suit and gymnastic equipment to 8
year old Zac Lakey.who is a member of the Fenland gymnastic
academy and is currently 17th. in the eastern region. In
addition Paul Strickle on behalf of the Wisbech Town cricket
club was presented
with a cheque for £125 towards the maintenance of their grass
cutter.
The guest speaker for the meeting was Alister Hopkins the town beadle, who gave a very informative talk on the history of Wisbech together with lots of information regarding famous people in the past connected to the town. He came in full regalia and showed members some of the treasures from the council chambers such as the mayor and mayoress' chains of office. He was thanked on behalf of the club by vice chairman David Bruch.
Wisbech Business & Professional men’s club enjoyed a visit to Sandringham stud. Chairman Rick Wilson thanked the members for their generous donations which resulted in £200 being added to the chairman’s charity fund. The chairman thanked Philip Howarth for a very enjoyable tour.

At the
June meeting John Smith chairman of the friends of the Wisbech
Institute talked about gaining charity status which would give
greater chance of achieving grants to renovate the historic
building.
Speaker for the evening was Howard Newton who spoke about fire
safety and risk assessment within factories, offices and other
places of business. Howard was thanked by club member Brian Kett.
130 members and guests attended the summer event at the Wisbech
St. Mary community hall with entertainment from sixty’s group
the Ivy League and disco My Way. A great time was had by all
including guests from Wales and Canada.

36 members were welcomed by chairman Rick Wison. Get well messages were sent to Vice Chairman David Bruch and David Cox. The guest speaker for the evening was one of the country's top sports impersonators Arron James. Arron has appeared at all the top venues in the uk and often entertains at Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa clubs to name to name a few. He had members present spellbound and in fits of laughter doing his impressions of Peter Allis, Ricky Hatton, Chris Eubank, Frank Bruno and from the football world Sven Goran-ericksson, David Beckem and best of all Eric Cantanar. Arron has appeared on the Jonathan Ross show and all over europe. He finished with a standing ovation and was thanked by club member Tim Gower.
The next meeting will be on June 9th. when the guest will be
Howard Newton from the Cambridgshire Fire and rescue service.

Guest speaker for the
April meeting was former Manchester United and England
goalkeeper Alex Stepney.
Alex was born in Mitcham Surrey in September 1942 and went on to
play for Tooting and Mitcham, Millwall, Chelsea and Manchester
United. He also
played in goal for England in 1968. At Manchester he played with
such legends as Bobby Charlton, George Best, and Pat Crerand.
He joined united from Chelsea in 1966 for a record signing fee
of £55.000 and made a total of 433 appearances. In his total
career he managed to play with all clubs a magnificent 625
games.
Alex told many stories from his playing career and tales from
managers such as Tommy Docherty, Matt Busby and Dave Sexton. He
was thanked by club member and united season ticket holder Terry
Roughton.
March 2010
39 members and guests were welcomed to the March meeting by Chairman Rick Wilson, when the speaker was David Roger-Burton who appeared in full admiral’s attire. He spoke on the life and times of Admiral Lord Nelson who was born in Burnham Thorpe in Norfolk. A total of 820 men manned HMS victory which was made from thousands of fully grown oak trees. Nelson was a son of a vicar and is buried in St. Paul’s Cathedral. He was thanked on the clubs behalf by past chairman Bernie Hurst.

Wisbech
Business and Professional Mens Club has given the
East Anglian Air Ambulance a £2,070 boost.
The money was presented by 2009 club chairman David Hodgson to
Chris Donaldson, the local air ambulance fundraising manager.
David chose the charity during his year of office. Chris
told members about the service, which relies on charity
donations as it is not government funded. The response times
average 11 minutes and each flying mission costs on average
£1,100. The presentation was made at the club's monthly meeting
where members heard tickets for the chairman's At Home on
March 20 have sold out.
