Musical Director - Andrew Marples

Andrew Marples is well known in the Derbyshire area as a conductor, accompanist and concert-promoter. He studied music at Reading University and piano accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music in London.

He is currently Musical Director of Baslow Choir, Holymoorside Choral Society, Cantiamo and MusicWork Vocal Ensemble. He retired as MD of Chesterfield Gilbert & Sullivan Society in 2020 after 20 years of service. He has worked with Sheffield City Opera, Present Company, Matlock Operatic Society, Rotherham Choral Society and the Bakewell Arts Festival.

Andrew has conducted many shows including Oliver, Gigi, Oklahoma, all the Gilbert & Sullivan shows, The Elixir of Love, The Merry Widow, Viva Mexico and Joseph. He has appeared at Chatsworth House several times (most recently with Chatsworth Players as Musical Director for Sondheim’s ‘Into the Woods’ in 2022), Haddon Hall, The Lyceum & Crucible Theatres in Sheffield, Pomegranate Theatre and Crooked Spire Church (Chesterfield), Buxton Opera House, York Minster, Lincoln Cathedral, Southwell Minster and in several European venues. In his leisure time he can be found cheering on Chesterfield F.C. at the SMH Group Stadium!
