The Balsham Singers

We are a choir based in the village of Balsham, about 10 miles south-east of Cambridge. Founded in 1995 by members of the village, we are a four part SATB choir of enthusiastic singers united by the love of choral singing. As well as a core of Balsham members, the choir has grown to welcome singers from a number of surrounding villages, and some from even further afield. We currently have about 60 members with a range of ages and musical experience.

We sing a wide range of music from sacred works and classical anthems, to more contemporary works and musical theatre medleys. In addition, our Musical Director sometimes does his own beautiful arrangements of songs especially for us to perform. We are a friendly bunch and new members are always very welcome to join us: no audition is required, and the ability to read music is not essential, although useful. Our Musical Director offers CDs or uploads of individual voice parts of the music for each concert, as a really useful aid for learning our parts.

Our concerts, usually in May and December, are held at Holy Trinity Church, Balsham, a beautiful venue with an exceptional organ, where we perform to a very dedicated and loyal audience. As well as our very talented Musical Director, we have the good fortune to be able to call on excellent pianists/organists at each concert and to have the support of visiting soloists and sometimes a small orchestra.

We rehearse weekly on Thursday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30 pm. We begin rehearals in September for our concert in December, with a Christmas focus; our Spring/Summer concert, in mid-May, has a balance of more traditional choral pieces, coupled with some lighter works. Rehearsals are currently held at the Balsham Pavilion, adjacent to the church.
