Monton Voices

MONTON VOICES IS an active community choir with over 30 members some of whom have been together for over 8 years!

We are a friendly, sociable bunch and run a supportive, caring network for all our members. Meals out and the occasional theatre trip are a regular feature throughout the year.

Rehearsals are led by Gary Owen, our Musical Director, in a relaxed atmosphere with a view to having fun but working hard enough to improve our singing and to keep our standards high.

We take on an Accompanist during the run up to a concert to help produce a more polished performance.

Our rehearsals take place weekly during term-time on Tuesday evenings 7pm-9pm, using SS Peter and Paul RC Parish Church, Park Road Eccles, M6 8JR as our venue. The acoustics are great!

Anyone over 18 is warmly welcome to join us whatever your ability or experience. An audition is not required nor an ability to sight read music, but if you can hold a note it helps!

To see whether you'd like to join us, come to a few taster sessions as your 1st term is free. Thereafter it's £25 per term

Our concert dress code is black and white with the introduction of a contrasting colour depending on the occasion.

We work from a wide variety of music, usually SATB, which is generally purchased from choir funds. The repertoire includes

  • Songs from shows e.g. West Side Story, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera & Godspell

  • Oldies but goodies such as The Beatles, I Believe, Both side now.

  • Contemporary songs e.g. Fields of Gold, You Raise Me Up, The Rose, Tears in Heaven.

  • Choral Classics e.g.  Panis Angelicus, Ave Maria, Vivaldi's Gloria.

Depending on our audience, the time of year and special occasions, our music extends to songs from the 1920’s, traditional and modern Christmas carols, hymns for Easter and appropriate music for weddings and funerals.
