Based in County Antrim, Kaleidoscope
started life as a training organisation for Loughside Chamber Choir, but in
recent years the teenage group has become very successful in its own right.
Kaleidoscope operates in junior and senior
sections, with the main group in Newtownabbey being complemented by a twin
organisation in County Armagh. The girls work on the same repertoire and then
join together for concerts and competitions.
Kaleidoscope Newtownabbey is based in
Ballyearl Arts and Leisure Centre, which is about six miles north of Belfast
city centre. Rehearsals are held every Saturday afternoon, starting at 3.15 p.m.
for the junior section (11-14 years), followed by the senior girls (15-18
years).

The choir has a wide-ranging repertoire of
sacred and secular music. Arrangements of traditional Irish folksongs regularly
feature in concert and competition programmes.
There is no audition for
the junior section – everyone is welcome! Girls must pass a simple voice test
before progressing to the senior group
