Chester-le-Street
Civic Choir has been awarded a grant from the
BBC Performing Arts Fund, through their
Choral Ambition scheme.
The grant will be used to fund a number of workshops led by expert vocal
trainers to further develop vocal techniques and confidence.
The
BBC Performing Arts Fund is a
charity that was set up within the BBC in 2003 to help everyone achieve
their musical ambitions, from choirs, hip hop artists and musical
theatre performers to folk musicians. Since its inception the fund has
awarded over £3m to aspiring musicians, performers and groups across a
range of genres through funding instruments, training and development.
Of the 350
applications nationwide, 98 were successful in receiving funding for a
wide variety of projects. In all, 6,000 choir members will benefit and
of course, ultimately their audiences!
Chester-le-Street Civic Choir is
absolutely delighted to be amongst the winners. It is a thriving mixed
voice choir who are keen to take on new musical challenges. The award
is a real boost to members who are looking forward to getting even more
enjoyment from singing together.
The choir is
currently busy rehearsing for their Spring concert “Jubilate” on
Saturday 17 April. Rachel Orr will be guest soloist and the concert
features the first ever performance of a major work by Alan Howarth, a
member of the choir’s bass section.
Anyone interested in
any aspect of the choir’s work can contact Katherine Ottosson, Musical
Director on 0191 3889622 or Irene Cookson, Secretary on 0191 3884461.
