Mrs
Dorothy Garwood was elected by acclamation, Honorary President of
Chesterton Choral Society on 3rd April 2006.
Dorothy
has had a distinguished musical career in Cambridge since 1961,
including being Accompanist to the Chesterton Choral Society since
December 1966.
As a
young musician, she entered various music festivals throughout the
country, gaining considerable acclaim en route. At the age of 22,
she gained her Royal College of Music diploma. Active for many
years as accompanist to numerous choirs and choral groups in
Cambridge, Dorothy also taught at the Shrubbery School between
1971-81 in addition to teaching privately.
At her final concert
before retiring as accompanist, on 3rd April 2006, the Choir
performed a varied programme entitled "Piano Forty", including many
pieces chosen by Dorothy herself, and performed as a tribute to her
wonderful contribution to the Choir over 40 years.
